The Paintress, a mysterious entity, marks a number on her monolith, and all individuals of that age vanish into smoke in an event known as the "Gommage." As this number dwindles each year, the stakes escalate. Players lead Expedition 33, a desperate undertaking from the sanctuary of Lumière, tasked with a seemingly impossible mission: to confront and destroy the Paintress before she marks "33" and plunges the world into irreversible darkness. Within this captivating turn-based RPG, players discover a formidable optional challenge in the form of the Chromatic Veilleur. This imposing, arboreal being represents a heightened, "Chromatic" iteration of the standard Veilleur, presenting a uniquely perilous encounter primarily revolving around a single, devastating status effect: Blight. This crippling affliction drastically reduces a party's maximum health to a mere single point, rendering every attack a potentially fatal gamble. The Chromatic Veilleur resides in the high-level, optional zone of Frozen Hearts. To confront it, players must navigate from the Glacial Falls rest point, traversing a small chasm to reach a vast cavern. It is within this cavern, in close proximity to a door leading to the Manor, that this formidable adversary patrols. The creature exhibits a vulnerability to both Light and Lightning damage, making characters like Verso and Lune particularly effective. Conversely, it possesses a resistance to Dark damage, suggesting that Sciel, a specialist in that element, would be a less optimal choice. The Veilleur's primary weak point is the radiant energy contained within the lamp it perpetually carries. The strategic core of this battle hinges on meticulous Blight management. The Chromatic Veilleur employs two key abilities that apply this debilitating effect. "Blighted strike" is a slow, yet potent, four-hit melee assault characterized by overhead slams and spinning motions, telegraphed with enough foresight to allow for player reaction. More concerning is its "Blighted wave," an unavoidable, party-wide attack that inflicts Blight upon all active characters. To counteract this, players must leverage the Free Aim mechanic to target the boss's lamp, thereby cleansing Blight from the character who successfully lands the shot. Given the extreme risk of instant defeat, a party level of 50 or higher is strongly advised. Certain Pictos can offer significant advantages, such as "Solidifying" for enhanced shields or "Death Bomb" and "Energising Death" for benefits upon a character's demise. Verso's "Blodam" weapon, which scales in power with missing health, synergizes exceptionally well with the Blight mechanic, making it a powerful tool in this high-stakes confrontation. Overcoming the Chromatic Veilleur yields substantial rewards. Players will acquire the Level 22 "Energising Burn" Pictos, which grants an additional Action Point per turn when the Burn status effect is applied.
