As Zer0 confronts Bossanova, eliminating his forces with deadly efficiency, Felix, the mentor to Fiona and Sasha, intercepts the money briefcase. In a shocking betrayal, Felix turns on the sisters, intending to steal the money. Players face a critical choice: warn Felix about the briefcase's explosive lock, shoot him, or do nothing. This decision determines his fate. Meanwhile, Zer0 finishes his fight with Bossanova before departing, having completed his mission but unaware of a greater discovery nearby. Rhys falls into a hidden Atlas chamber, where he and Fiona uncover two pieces of metal. Bringing them together assembles the Gortys core, an artifact Zer0 was unknowingly searching for. Upon assembly, the core activates a dormant AI within Rhys's cybernetic implant – none other than the digital ghost of Handsome Jack, the infamous former Hyperion CEO. Jack confirms they have found the Gortys Project, which leads to a Vault, ominously promising future trouble. This dramatic conclusion cements the episode's events, sets up the main quest for the Gortys Project, and introduces Handsome Jack as a key, unpredictable element, earning the player the "Blood Money" achievement and concluding the first episode.
