Tales from the Borderlands is an episodic interactive adventure game developed by Telltale Games and set in Gearbox Software's chaotic Borderlands universe, blending Telltale's narrative focus and choice-driven gameplay with the sci-fi humor and world of Pandora. Episode 1, "Zer0 Sum," culminates in Chapter 3, titled "Partners In Crime," where the separate, disastrous schemes of Hyperion corporate climber Rhys and Pandoran con artist Fiona violently collide and force an unlikely alliance. Following the initial chaotic deal gone wrong and the theft of their combined funds by bandit leader Bossanova, Rhys, his friend Vaughn, Fiona, her sister Sasha, and their mentor Felix find themselves broke and stranded on Pandora. With a shared enemy and objective – recovering the stolen ten million dollars – they reluctantly agree to work together under the moniker "Partners In Crime." As they begin tracking Bossanova, Rhys impulsively installs a retrieved Hyperion chip into his cybernetics, inadvertently inviting the digital consciousness of Handsome Jack into his mind, though Rhys is initially confused by the strange glitching and visions. The group formulates a plan to infiltrate Bossanova's bandit compound: Rhys and Sasha go inside to hack their way through, while Fiona and Vaughn participate in a nearby vehicle race where the money is believed to be heading. Inside, Rhys and Sasha navigate traps and bandits, receiving unexpected aid from the skilled Vault Hunter Zer0. Meanwhile, the race becomes a chaotic battle for the stolen briefcase, which is blasted from the compound during a performance by Bossanova. The chase spans vehicles, bandits, and even a giant skag before the briefcase lands on a race car Vaughn manages to commandeer. Just as they are about to retrieve it, Felix intercepts the case, revealing his betrayal. He had intended to take the money for himself. A confrontation ensues, leading to a crucial choice for Fiona regarding Felix and an explosive lock on the briefcase, determining his fate. In the aftermath, Zer0 kills Bossanova and departs, having failed to find the Gortys Project. Rhys then falls into a hidden Atlas facility, where he and Fiona discover components of the Gortys Project, followed immediately by the full reveal of the Handsome Jack AI within Rhys's head, confirming the project's link to a Vault and setting the stage for their subsequent adventures.
