*Stray* is an adventure game where players experience the world through the eyes of a stray cat. The story begins with the feline protagonist accidentally falling into a walled, post-apocalyptic cybercity inhabited by sentient robots and dangerous creatures, entirely cut off from the outside world. The gameplay focuses on exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving using the cat's unique abilities, soon aided by a helpful drone companion named B-12. A pivotal location in the early game is The Flat, also known as B-12 Flat, found within the desolate Dead City. This decaying apartment serves as the setting for Chapter 3 and is where the cat first encounters B-12. The flat is accessible via a window or a main door and is divided into two main rooms. The first contains a bed, workspace, and a ruined bathroom, with a diploma indicating a Scientist once resided here. The second room features a small kitchen, another workspace, and a large monitor where B-12, initially trapped in the network, communicates with the cat. An iron door in the flat leads to a laboratory filled with equipment and an electrical box puzzle. Solving this reveals a secret pantry containing a sarcophagus, a defunct robot body, and the box holding B-12's drone form. The apartment's history suggests multiple occupants: a Scientist, likely the original resident, followed by a robot after humans vanished, evidenced by robot-specific items and writing. The events of Chapter 3 largely center on the cat solving the puzzle to access the pantry and activating B-12’s drone body. Once activated, B-12 reveals its past connection to the Scientist and its centuries trapped in the network. B-12 then uses its new abilities to digitize the flat's keys, opening the main door and allowing the duo to finally exit and move towards the Slums, marking the start of their journey through the city and towards the Outside.
