Stray is a video game where players control a stray cat navigating a decaying cybercity inhabited by robots. The narrative begins when the cat falls into this walled city, cut off from the outside world. Gameplay involves exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving using the cat's abilities, often aided by a drone companion, B-12, who translates the robots' language and interacts with technology. The Slums, also known as the SafeZone by the robotic inhabitants called Companions, serve as a central location in Stray. Situated on the Lower Level of Walled City 99, it's a dilapidated but resilient enclave. Characterized by a collection of large buildings housing the Companions' apartments, the Slums are fenced off due to the broken elevator to the Upper Level and the constant threat of Zurks, swarming creatures. The area is a reflection of past poverty, with residents lacking resources and relying on barter. The cat and B-12 first arrive in the Slums seeking a way to the Outside, a goal the robotic inhabitants largely consider a myth. They meet Momo, the last remaining member of the Outsiders, a group who still believe in reaching the surface. To help Momo, the cat must find notebooks belonging to his fellow Outsiders, which are scattered throughout the city, revealing information about reaching the upper level and the fight against the Zurks. Returning to the Slums later, the cat aids Seamus in finding his missing father, Doc, an Outsider who was developing a weapon against the Zurks. This involves solving a puzzle to access Doc's secret laboratory and repairing a broken tracker.
