To help bridge the early game sun deficit, the level also introduces the Puff-shroom. This remarkable plant requires no sun to plant, allowing for immediate defensive placement, providing a crucial early buffer against the advancing zombies, albeit with a short range and modest damage. Environmental changes also accompany the night. Gravestones begin to appear on the lawn, acting as obstacles to plant placement and foreshadowing future zombie spawns. While the tool to remove them, the Grave Buster, is not yet available, their presence serves as an introduction to this new tactical consideration. The zombie lineup in this introductory night level is relatively forgiving, primarily consisting of standard zombies. However, it introduces the Newspaper Zombie, a threat whose newspaper shield, once destroyed, enrages the zombie, making it move significantly faster.
