Borderlands 2
Description
Borderlands 2 is a wildly popular first-person shooter RPG developed by Gearbox Software, celebrated for its distinctive cel-shaded art style, irreverent humor, and incredibly deep loot system. Set on the chaotic planet Pandora, players step into the boots of one of four unique Vault Hunters, each with their own skill trees and playstyles. Their mission: to thwart the megalomaniacal Handsome Jack and his corporate tyranny. The game’s core loop revolves around a constant barrage of shooting, mission completion, and the acquisition of procedurally generated weapons, ensuring there’s always a better gun just around the corner.
Among the many engaging side activities in Borderlands 2, the “Rock, Paper, Calamity” (or "Камень, Ножницы, Каюк" in its Russian translation) mission chain offers a fantastic introduction to the game’s elemental damage types. Delivered by the boisterous arms dealer Marcus Kincaid in Sanctuary, these four sequential missions cleverly guide players through the tactical advantages of fire, shock, corrosive, and slag damage.
The chain begins with "Rock, Paper, Genocide: Fire Weapons!", where Marcus tasks you with testing a provided incendiary pistol on a bandit at his shooting range. This highlights fire’s effectiveness against unarmored flesh. Next, "Rock, Paper, Genocide: Shock Weapons!" introduces shock damage, equipping you with a shock weapon to dismantle shielded enemies, emphasizing its role in quickly depleting shields. The third installment, "Rock, Paper, Genocide: Corrosive Weapons!", provides corrosive weaponry to dismantle robotic targets, showcasing its superior performance against armored foes. Finally, "Rock, Paper, Genocide: Slag Weapons!" teaches the unique utility of slag. Slagged enemies take significantly increased damage from all other elemental types, making it a crucial support element. You’re instructed to slag a target and then finish them off with another weapon before the effect wears off. Completing this series not only rewards players with experience and cash but also makes a special, unkillable bandit, "Target Practice," appear at the shooting range for continuous weapon testing. These missions are an excellent, enjoyable way to grasp essential combat mechanics.
