Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

Description

Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is an origin story for the famous detective, placing players in the shoes of a younger, more arrogant Sherlock on the island of Cordona, his childhood home. The game, an open-world detective experience, tasks players with investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding his mother's death while navigating the island's secrets and traditions. It utilizes mechanics like clue gathering, profiling, the Mind Palace for deductions, and reconstruction of events. "Ghosts of the Past" serves as an introductory main case within Sherlock Holmes Chapter One, guiding players through core gameplay elements shortly after arriving in Cordona. The case begins when Sherlock, investigating a lost cane at his hotel, is drawn into a peculiar scene in a Seance Room involving Lord and Lady Craven and a medium, Luka Ghalichi. Initial investigation involves profiling Lord Craven and meticulously searching the room for clues like ectoplasm, a wine glass, and a butterfly brooch. Using the Mind Palace, Sherlock deduces a potential witness in the courtyard. Following a trail outside, Sherlock locates a broken high heel and a maid's shoe, identifying the witness as Lucia, a hotel maid. Questioning Lucia provides vital testimony, allowing Sherlock to reconstruct the seance events in the Seance Room through an Imagination Sequence, revealing the medium's fake ectoplasm and Lady Craven's actions. The case intensifies upon discovering Lady Craven murdered in her suite. Examining the body and the room uncovers clues like a bruised throat, a returned diamond, and a secret compartment with stolen goods, suggesting she was involved in theft. Confronting Lord Craven and obtaining the medium's room key leads Sherlock to Ghalichi's room, where he finds tools of the trade and a revealing letter. Analyzing the ectoplasm confirms it's fake, and a character portrait reveals Ghalichi's past as a thief. Through the Mind Palace, Sherlock connects the evidence: Lady Craven was a thief who stole her own diamond and framed Ghalichi. Ghalichi, recognizing her, confronted and murdered her in anger. The player must accuse Ghalichi and is presented with a moral choice regarding his fate, a decision that influences the game's subtly. Completing "Ghosts of the Past" rewards the player and seamlessly transitions back to the overarching main quest, "A Mother's Love."
